Prahlad Chandra
Karmakar (1900 - 1946)

He
was born in Bikrampur Village, Dhaka District, Bangladesh. In his
early life he showed talent in drawing and was apprenticed to a
goldsmith. He became famous as a jewellery designer. He was forced
to paint academic portraits for his living. 1925 First Artist to
set up a studio with nude study facility, first of its kind, Calcutta.
He died of cancer, and within a few months after his death, during
a communal riot, his studio was burnt down.
