Pramadaranjan Ghosh (1886-1976)


Son of Parbaticharan Ghosh, Pramadaranjan was born in Vikrampur, Dhaka, in 1886. After completing his post-graduation in Philosophy, he started teaching at the Srirampur Collegiate School in 1910. He did a teachers' training course and taught at the Dhaka Collegiate School for a couple of years.

In 1914 he joined the Brahmacharyasrama in Santiniketan.He taught English and History in the school and later he also taught Philosophy in the college. He left Santiniketan twice to work elsewhere and on both occasions he was requested by Rabindranath to come back. In 1930 when Rabindranath went on a long foreign tour, he appointed Pramadaranjan as Karma-Saciva. In 1937 he was appointed Adhyaksha of Siksha Bhavana. During the period 1938-39 he served Patha Bhavana as Adhyaksha. He also retired from Visva-Bharati in 1947 as Adhyaksha of Patha Bhavana.

He had written a number of books, including Amar dekha Rabindranath O Tnar Santiniketan. He died in Santiniketan in 1976.
