Monzurul Huq

Monzurul Huq is a journalist with working experience at the United Nations, the BBC World Service and NHK’s Radio Japan. He received his first M.A. in Journalism from Moscow State University and added to this a second in Area Studies, Japan, from the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London.
His involvement in print journalism dates back to the early days of post-independent Bangladesh, when after joining the war of independence he started writing for a periodical published by the Bangladesh Students Union. Later he contributed on a regular basis to Daily Sangbad and Bhorer Kagoj.
He moved to Japan in 1994 after working at the United Nations Information Center in Dhaka and BBC World Service in London for more than a decade.
He presently represents two leading national dailies of Bangladesh in Japan – Prothom Alo and the Daily Star, and contributes regularly to a number of other important publications in Bangladesh. He has written extensively both in English and Bengali on matters related to Japan and East Asia. In addition to his routine work as a journalist, he is also a visiting professor at the Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, Yokohama National University and Keisen University, teaching subjects related to Japanese politics, Japanese media, the developing world and world affairs. He also works as a radio broadcaster for NHK. He has authored three books in Bengali on Japan and other subjects.
A member of the Foreign Correspondents’ Club of Japan since 2000, he has served at the Board of Directors of the Club for two consecutive terms before being elected president of the Club.
